Sumner High School FCCLA

FCCLA

What is FCCLA?

FCCLA is a nationwide organization that was established in 1945 to improve students' career and family choices. The acronym "FCCLA" stands for Family, Career, Community, Leaders of America. Sumner High School's FCCLA club has been implemented since before 1993 and has grown through the years creating a strong and leader-filled club. Students have been able to have an outlet for their creative abilities in their school and home lives. Today, Sumner High School has had one of the largest FCCLA chapters seen in the school's 30 years of organization with 25 active members and 8 chapter officers. Our chapter works toward the horizons of strength and student fulfillment in the leadership aspects of their lives.  Through Washington FCCLA, the Sumner chapter has been able to network with others and lead a more successful organization, gaining recognition, and leading students to win awards at the national level. The 2023-2024 officers have been working hard to do just that and so much more, guiding the chapter to success and new horizons through our chapter's programs of work, and efforts to foster a strong community within our chapter.

Sumner High School

Sumner High School was founded in the early 1900s in Sumner, Washington. SHS is currently a 4A school with 1,726 students enrolled. Students have opportunities to enhance their education through the running start and IB Diploma programs. The running start program allows students to enroll in college and technical courses while in high school, and the IB program offers a variety of higher, or university, level and standard level courses with opportunities to test in the courses through the international academic organization. Sumner High School has a strong sense of community and a high level of community involvement and outreach. Our school strives to follow the Spartan Way, by building positive relationships, encouraging acceptance, speaking to others positively, treating all with respect, encouraging others, and more. This is exemplified through advisory curriculum, student involvement, and support and involvement of staff. The mission statement of SHS is: "The Sumner High School community develops all students to be inquiring, knowledgeable, ethical and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. ", and this is put to action through the Spartan Way, school programs, and community involvement.
