SHS FCCLA Members

STAR Events

Participate in FCCLA's Students Taking Action with Recognition competitive events! This is an opportunity to conduct an impactful project that can make change for the community and improve public speaking, organizational, and career related skills. By conducting a project related to your interests, presenting in front of judges, and working with others, these events lead to endless opportunity for personal and professional growth. STAR Event competitors are able to win awards, travel across the country, and even win scholarships. Check out the Chapter Awards page to learn about the prestigious recognition members have earned.

FCS

Family & Consumer Science Courses

Strengthen your knowledge of FCCLA by taking an FCS course! Personal Choices, Culinary Arts, and Child Development are just a few of the many FCS courses Sumner High School offers. These courses provide many real world experiences to students interested in FCS. Through these industry experiences, students are able to develop the skills needed for careers related to FCS. Our teachers Mrs. Sather and Ms. Aszklar work hard to teach hands-on classes with project-based work to ensure students have the experience needed to become successful in both their personal and professional lives.

National Programs

Get involved with FCCLA's 8 nation wide initiatives to promote its organizational purposes. Our chapter participates in many of these programs through our community service events, recruitment efforts, and more. There are opportunities to carry out the STAR Event project National Programs in Action, where competitors highlight their chapter's involvement in one of the national programs. Pick up a planning sheet from an officer or adviser to get started! For more information, reach out to our Vice President of Programs.

Why does SHS FCCLA choose these activities?

Sumner High FCCLA has chosen these activities for our main involvement opportunities because of their promotion of FCCLA's purposes, values, and mission.

FCCLA's Mission Statement:

To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner and community leader, members develop skills for life through: character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
